Hawk, 2 comments on Nanosys PR that you link in your post. First, nanosys says they use cadmium in the green qd, but only a small amount and presumably RoHS compliant. They are not cfqd -cadmium free qd. Not good from a marketing perspective. it limits the number of manufacturers that will work with them. that's just the way it is.
Second, back in 2012 at SID I asked the nanosys communication director if they truly made 20000 kg of qd, and he said that number refered to the qd solution which is only 10 percent 'loaded'. So that's only 2000kg of qd. I had someone at SID confirm this by asking the nanosys man the same question. Now their PR claims 25000kg of qd 'materials '. I have to think it is still a qd solution.
