An example is Dishnet. They filed patents and guess what, the world could access Dishnet channels because they let their technology out. GAWD was Charlie pissed!. As soon as they changed strategy with their encryption now you gotta pay. Dish is just an example of proprietary knowledge.
OWC doesn't have to do the IP gig, but they choose to.
In the end with biopharma, it's a good thing should another company try to snag the tech.
