IMO I think Rick is a greedy SOB and though this was going to be a *billion* dollar company. He wanted it all to himself!
His end game IMO was to take this private.
The machine didn't work like he though it would but he didn't find that out until he was ball$ deep in PTOI.
Once he realized this wouldn't work like he planned, it was too late and now he's stuck with a giant turd on one side, and *discovery* from those who lost a ton of $$$$ on the other.
