I once put my shares at a price so high they wouldn't sell. My order was cancelled by ETrade along with a note that included a comment that if it was my intention to prevent these from being used as margin shares I wouldn't have to worry because only specific shares could be used... blah blah blah... I forget the details, but evidently it's not necessary to put the shares in limbo.
