A lot of people read chat rooms when they first hear about a stock, to see if it looks like it's worth their while to investigate it further.
When someone goes to a chat room, and a liar says things like "The CEO is a crook, he's paid too much, their main drug (Kevetrin) is just water, the FDA would never approve it, the trials aren't designed correctly, they're mismanaged..."
well, that person isn't going to spend any more time researching the stock.
I completely agree that one would have to be a fool to invest on the basis of what some anonymous person posts in a chat room. BUT, those chat rooms can be very influential in convincing prospective investors NOT to consider investing.
And that's why the shorts post their lies continually.
