When the dividend is distributed the brokerage firms are going to find out just how short they are. By rule (not saying they will do this) they are required to buy in whatever they are short. They have a fiduciary duty to do so and will not be able to claim ignorance so that dividend is going to cause lots of problems for lots of folks especially if the company is able to announce some deals that are in the works. Sure there is risk but the potential reward is ginormous.
