DECN- So we have been using the Dexcom G5 continuous monitor for about a month and it works pretty well. Have to test with strips 3 or so times a day so it does lower the amount of strips that are needed. I don't see a huge impact on the strip business due to high cost and most diabetics are type 2 and I don't see many spending the money for continuous monitoring. I spend $10,000 per year out of pocket on healthcare mostly due to the Omnipod and now this other gadget and I think that is cost prohibitive for most. I have Blue Cross employer insurance so I can only imagine what this would cost without insurance or with a plan that is not as good as mine. So the strip business will continue to be a cash cow for some time probably leveling off in the next 3 to 5 years due to more devices like the Dexcom but still remaining in the billions$ per year for the foreseeable future.
