The article argues nothing of the sort.
Here is a thoughtful response to an equally thoughtful article:

A well written and thoughtful article. But any arguments over "when life begins" as it pertains to the issue of reproductive freedom of choice have NOTHING to do with the various religious or scientific perspectives, as the writer must know.
Those who support personhood from the moment of conception want to have total control over women, starting with their bodies. While claiming to know better than what this writer, and some conservative legislators have called "the host" (talk about wholly negating the brain and life of the pregnant woman!!), what is "best" for the woman, the unborn, society, they want ownership of women.
If the concern was for the unborn, there would be expensive and expansive social support services provided for the born and those who gestate them. Instead, conservatives want to cut any and all of those, from access to excellent pre-natal care and nutrition to all possible post-birth healthcare and "First Five" needs of the born. Conservatives want the government (all levels) to be responsible for none of those.
If the concern was for the woman, there would be easy access to information, health screenings, and access to all forms of birth control, so the woman would minimize her chances of conceiving before she felt ready and able to carry the unborn to birth.
Rape would be heavily and rapidly punished as the violent assault it is. If a pregnancy results, the rapist would be held responsible for reparations and costs of the care of the woman and the unborn; for child support if there is a birth. And the rapist would be charged with murder if either the woman or the child dies in childbirth.
Then, maybe, we wouldn't be living in a society that applauds vasectomies as responsible and pay for them without hesitation, and condemns women for being equally sexually active. No, it's all about control over women.
Ms. Host: good luck with your gestation.
