Gates Foundation Invests $220-Million in Tuberculosis Research
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will donate $220-million over five years to an organization that is working on tuberculosis treatments, according to Agence France-Presse and the Washington Business Journal.
Aeras, a nonprofit biotechnology company in Rockville, Md., said the grant represents about half of what it needs to meet its targets for vaccine development by 2016.
The grant extends the foundation's longtime backing of Aeras, which has several early- and mid-stage TB vaccine candidates in development in partnership with drug companies and academic institutions.
