Yes, MMs want you ready to sell. When good news is released, the stock will go up. Some people will be relieved and sell. Then, once the good news is fully digested, the stock will move up further. MMs will have more cheap shares to sell to others.

The only defense is to Know What You Own. Everyone should have a fair pps in mind so that these games don't scare you.
