Part of me says; good riddance. His obvious internal guilt served as his true judgement and lead him to take initiative to punish himself, rather than waste the public's time an money in a long court battle.
On the other hand, it would be good to have examples of people like him being charged, prosecuted, and jailed to serve as a deterrent to the other scum bags out there fleecing people of their money.
