The New Challenge for TB Research

An ancient disease, TB remains one of the major causes of disability and death worldwide. In 2010, an estimated 8.8 million people fell ill with TB, including 1.1 million cases among people with HIV, according to the World Health Organization. Of the 1.4 million deaths, 95 percent occurred in developing countries.
