Here is a hypothetical for you.
I work for a company that makes shower heads. In fact I'm way, way high up in the company. I just invented (maybe in my garage?) a new shower head that will save 50% of the water used "BUT" the end user will notice NO difference from a full flow shower head. I get a patent for it and put it into my name. What do you think the Company is going to do??? I'll tell you what they would do...... They WOULD (no hypothetic about it) fire me, and then intern sue my butt off to regain the rights to the patent. You see... it was a product that would directly benefit the company I worked for since it is a product they make. And I worked for them at the time I invented/patented it.
Simple enough?
