Soxie, I don't think that an ethics committee would approve a double-blind study when it's an invasive procedure like this. How would you feel if you had to endure retention enemas every day for 6 weeks, and then found out you were just getting saline? I think they would instead compare the treated population with a large untreated population. There have been lots of other studies that have handled problems like this similarly.
