Krauthammer: Sessions & Flynn Cases Are Both 'Cover-Ups in Search of a Crime'
Charles Krauthammer said tonight that just like in the Michael Flynn controversy, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is under fire for an apparent cover-up of his contacts with a Russian official.
"This reminds me of the Flynn case. It's a cover-up in search of a crime," Krauthammer said, calling the case "complicated" and adding that Sessions gave a "plausible excuse for his actions" at his press conference on the issue.
Flynn resigned last month after reports surfaced that he had been untruthful with Vice President Pence about a pre-inauguration phone call with Russian envoy Sergey Kislyak.
In January, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) during his confirmation hearing whether he had any contact with Russian officials while citing reports of interference in the presidential election.
Late Wednesday, the Washington Post reported on two instances where Sessions, as an Alabama senator, met Kislyak last year.
However, Sessions said such meetings were held in his roles as a senator or member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Krauthammer called Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the FBI probe "absolutely necessary," and added that "if another shoe drops" citing contact between Sessions and the Russians, he will have to leave his post.
At this point, Krauthammer said, "there is not a scintilla of evidence of improper contact."
"What did Sessions know about remembering the meeting [with Kislyak] and when did he remember," he said.
