When they first discovered anti-retrovirals were useful to fight AIDS, those early drugs had to be taken every 4 hours. AIDS patients had timers and would take the drugs 6 times a day -- including the middle of the night. One of the original treatments involved 3 drugs and some were taken at different times, so people had to be constantly thinking about their medication schedule. By comparison every 5-6 hours would not be too inconvenient given the choice between that and having the cancer continue unchecked.
Also, those anecdotal cases from the Phase 1, of improvements in the patients -- that was with a long time between doses. It may be that the best dosing schedule is to jolt the system with it, let it clear, and then jolt it again after a certain time period. We don't know -- but anyway having it in pill for is great news and will certainly make it much easier for the patients.
