I believe it's more expensive than it is complicated. Time and sensitivity studies can be 1-2 months. Getting approval could take that long from whatever hospital(s) IRB receives the application. The fact that there is going to be a study needs to be submitted to the FDA so that it's recognized as a study under their rules. Then the final results need to be published in a peer-reviewed journal. After that the information is out there for interested personnel to reference and use to make patient usage decisions.
Shouldn't take long if they have the financing.
