Because yeah, Montana, AK, ID and UT need the same 2 Senators for much, much less of a population than the larger States have.
It's called archaic.
But let me go out on a limb as pose this scenario for you. Clinton won the electoral vote by the same margin as did Trump, and she lost the popular vote by the margin she actually won by.
How you feeling about those results and about the Electoral college, THEN?
