The first casualty of war is truth............
In WWI after the Balfour Declaration was signed US media outlets starting spreading fake news about the evil Hun soldiers cutting off the hands of Belgian children.....it was very effective in getting Americans on side to join the Allies, when previously US public opinion was more favorable to the Germans because of the large number of Americans of German heritage.
More recently in the first Gulf War there was that story of Iraqi forces tossing babies out of incubators, which was later proven to be the invention of a PR agency hired to 'sell the war' to Americans and the general public around the world.
Or the Jessica Lynch story.....
