nutter - Reid: I've Lost Respect For Romney Because He Paid 'Homage' to Trump
Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) slammed Mitt Romney, apparently for allowing himself to be vetted by President-elect Donald Trump for a cabinet position after criticizing him during the campaign.
"Mitt Romney is someone I had respect for," Reid told the Huffington Post, "This is a man who came out big-time against Trump."
Reid said Romney either "wasn't telling the truth" when the former Massachusetts governor hammered Trump in a March speech, "or he's a person with no character."
"To go and do homage to this guy he said awful things about, I don’t think that shows much character.” Reid said.
Romney had been considered for the secretary of state position in Trump's administration, a post to which the New York mogul nominated oil executive Rex Tillerson.
Romney responded to Reid's interview through a spokesperson, saying he "lost respect" for Reid when he "repeatedly lied about my taxes and later admitted to it cheerily."
"Good riddance, Mister Reid," Romney said of the senator's retirement.
