This is huge news, nothing else has ever worked to significantly halt the progression of Alzheimer's for any significant amount of time. Desperate people are taking the approved drugs but they buy very little time for the patient, and they have horrendous side effects. The fact that those drugs were approved shows how desperate the FDA (and their big pharma pals) are to offer something, anything -- but since all those drugs keep following the same failed pathway, the billions that big pharma is spending on clinical trials is wasted money.
So, will AVXL get bought out? The question is -- what will it take to convince big pharma that this actually works? I think that if more patients and longer clinical trials keep having these results, a buy-out is a no-brainer. Imagine what a blockbuster this will be if it continues to have good results. And I agree that LOTS of people would be taking this as they reach a certain age, just to make sure that they don't go down the horrendous Alzheimer's pathway.
I bought some calls when it was down several weeks ago. The 2.50's don't have all that much premium in them (yet). Probably will just exercise them and get the stock.
