Somali Man Rams Ohio State Students with Car, Attacks With Knife; 9 Injured
At least nine people were injured and a suspect was killed during an incident at Ohio State University on Monday morning.
An "active shooter" was reported at the university shortly before 10:00am, and students were told to shelter in place.
It turned out, however, that the only gunfire came from police toward the suspect, now identified as a Somali man in his 20s.
A message from the campus' emergency alert system sent out at 9:56am instructed students to "Run Hide Fight."
In a press conference, officials said that the suspect hit a group of pedestrians with a car outside Watts Hall, a math and science building, and then exited the vehicle and attacked them with a butcher knife.
The suspect was engaged by a campus security guard and was shot dead. There is no evidence that the suspect had a firearm, officials said.
After the threat was neutralized, university officials tweeted that the area was "secure" and that classes were canceled for the remainder of the day
A female student, Cydney Ireland, said on Fox News Channel that people were "running in every direction they possibly could" and that she ran into a bathroom stall with another person and locked the door.
"I've never seen anything like it," she said, explaining that she was hiding about a block away from where the shooting happened.
