The former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential candidate was lamenting Trump's selection of Steve Bannon to be White House Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor.
Speaking to CTV News, Dean preceded the comment by saying he doesn't disagree with everything Trump wants to do, pointing to a public-private infrastructure proposal and the "reasonable" selection of Reince Priebus as chief of staff.
Dean went on: "then his senior advisor is a Nazi," slamming the former CEO of Breitbart News, which Dean referred to as an "anti-Semitic" website.
"[Bannon] is anti-Semitic, he's anti-black and he's anti-women. ... It makes me very nervous. It calls into question Donald Trump's judgment. We don't know what to expect from Donald Trump," said Dean.
The interviewer then pressed him on using the word "Nazi" to describe Bannon.
"It's a big word, and I don't usually use it unless somebody's really anti-Semitic, really misogynist and really anti-black," he responded.
Dean then said minorities should be fearful of the incoming administration after Trump's "campaign of hate."
