Simplistic fable that overlooks the fear of the slave states at being 'out manned' by the larger more populous northern states.
If it were a national popular vote, no states would be ignored, no matter how blue or how red. Trump would be called on his claim that he would win enough votes in NY and CA to prevail in such an election.
He wouldn't.
Republic is still intact with 2 directly elected Senators no matter the state population, and of course congressional representation.
Trump was in favor of eliminating electoral college after '12 election.
Listen to your guy. He still favors that.
