In some areas the afternoons begin lengthening on Dec 13 even though mornings continue shortening til at least Jan1-with Dec 21 on average being the shortest day-dont know the reason for this non-synchronous divergence between sunrise and sunset but may have something to do w the elliptical orbit-many meteorologists arent even aware of the phenomena- and what do you expect when some of them call Dec 21 1st day of winter!
