I don't dispute that he pays the taxes you mentioned, just as many of Romney's notorious '47%' do.
Though I question the use by his surrogates of the designation of Trump as a 'genius' for using the carry-forward.
What kind of a genius loses nearly $1B in a year?
He repeatedly said he would release his taxes before hiding behind an alleged on going audit. You'd think there would be more evidence of 'genius' in them, if for instance he used up the carry-forward within a few years and if he was mostly a Fed taxpayer subsequently.
The 'optics' are bad, particularly among the voters with paychecks that show FICA withholding.
