I'm with Adam Smith and the author of the piece on this matter.
Your assumptions about 'poor management' overlook the portions of the usual tax pie that the taxes go toward including Defense, SS and Medicare.
I'm for a 'grand bargain' that would include lower corp. tax rate with elimination of loopholes so that it is actually paid rather than avoided, lifting of the cap on SS and Medicare withholding and a lower inheritance tax.
