No, it takes longer than that usually, 2 to 3 years if it is straight forward. Longer if there are issues. At times the inventors would need to go to the patent office to defend the application. I know of one instance where a couple of my co-workers went to the USPO and successfully convinced them to grant the patent.

A few times I had almost forgotten about the patents. I changed projects or moved on to something else every couple of years. It is one of those cases where you submit an application then wait and wait.
