WARREN, Mich. , May 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ecology Coatings, Inc. (OTCQB: ECOC), a leader in the discovery and development of high performance, ultraviolet-curable advanced coatings, announced that Sally Ramsey , Vice President of New Product Development, presented the company's patent pending GRAS (generally recognized as safe) coating technology at the Food Packaging Technologies Summit held in Chicago, IL.
Ecology has GRAS patents pending in the United States , Europe and Canada . The World Intellectual Property Organization previously determined that they found no prior art and that the GRAS application is novel and useful. This action allowed Ecology to file for an accelerated treatment for United States patents that will most likely be issued in 2012.
Ramsey's presentation focused on several potential uses and benefits of Ecology's exciting GRAS technology, including self-photoinitiating for eliminating the use of potentially harmful chemicals, resistance to grease and moisture, safe use for direct food contact, use as a pigment extender and as a matting agent — extremely pertinent subjects for the conference.
The Second Annual Food Packaging Technologies Summit is a pipeline to food packagers, the largest segment of the packaging industry and one of Ecology's most important markets. Speakers discussed new technologies and critical issues facing packaging companies and their brand owner partners. Ramsey participated in a panel focusing on emerging technologies in food packaging along with industry specialists and representatives from Dow, Avery Dennison , and ScentSational Technologies. She discussed the creation of UV curable coatings from actual food materials.
