The United States was set up similarly to Parliament.
However roughly
The house of commons is primarily elected.The house of Lords is primarily appointed by the Crown King or Queen and 92 are of royal blood.
Difference being you don't get a huge policy swing like we get with the US congress or the corporate lobby influence or nutter lobby.
The house of Lords for the most part control policy through the Queen and the Church of England.
We could find out our Constitution could be over ruled in a National Crisis by the Crown or common wealth
