Good2C QMC making use of Dr.Wongs' R&D in this area (see line-item#'s 102 thru 105): http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~wonglab/publication.html , likely prompted by some of his (big-name petroleum) funding benefactors: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~wonglab/research.html
I posted a number of articles & resources on this topic a few years ago & had envisioned the lucrative potential in this app. Upon further investigation I was told that CarbonQD's were the product of choice at that time, but that may have expanded somewhat since. As previously pointed-out, Rice has an entire dept focused on optimizing this tech: http://bcc.rice.edu/node/45 (checkout item#18). And contrary to a few dismissive remarks I've read today, this could be a quite lucrative area for commercialization. Personally, I'm no fan of 'fracking', but if done in a 'responsible' manner without contaminating underground water reserves, I could be convinced to see the merits.
