Just out - Trump Refuses to Back Paul Ryan, McCain in Primaries
Donald Trump on Tuesday refused to officially back House Speaker Paul Ryan and Arizona Sen. John McCain in their respective primary races, saying he is “not quite there yet.”
Both Ryan and McCain have released statements in recent days distancing themselves from Trump’s disparaging comments about a gold star family, and both have endorsed him.
“I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country,” Trump told The Washington Post. “We need very strong leadership. We need very, very strong leadership. And I’m just not quite there yet. I’m not quite there yet.” Trump praised Paul Nehlen, Ryan’s GOP challenger for his House seat, for running “a very good campaign.”
