It's actually a pathetic wish to turn back the clock which most generations express, but don't delude themselves that it's possible or really desirable.
That is ALL that is going on with Trump supporters, who, if Trump were running as a Dem, would rip the entrails out of him for all of the reason you have so well enumerated, and probably for some we haven't thought of.
