The only proof you can get is when there is some kind of great news, and then you'll see tremendous volume as shorts are covered. It will be in excess of the "official" short volume of the twice-monthly "official" figures.
There is NO reason that daily short volume can't be reported. They don't report it because other than 2 days a month, they can short real shares with impunity and then manipulate with fake short covering for those 2 reporting days, so that the actual LEGAL short sales appear to be much smaller than they are. And then, of course, there is whatever naked short position (illegal) that they also have.
Sometimes the lack of proof IS the proof. Anyone know where Jimmy Hoffa's body is? Anyone think he was an honest guy who just disappeared after dining with mafiosi?
