They do both but they hate giving back money that they have stolen. Their nirvana is for the company to go bankrupt. Companies with huge shorts that are able to outlast them are threats and can cause them huge losses. Hit pieces, class actions, SEC investigations encouraged by them are all part of their arsenal. Powerful enemy not easily overcome who have captured some regulators as well as many politicians. Same folks that caused the banking crisis which ended up having taxpayers bail them out.
