The stock market will always have volatility but the news media like to exaggerate everything because it brings in viewers/readers. I just heard from a very level headed financial adviser that the DJ is at the same level that it was 11 days ago. They want everybody to think it is a crisis when it is actually just part of the normal volatility of the market.
