Just IMHO, it isn't the moderators. To some extent Administrators scan the posts to see what to remove, especially on a "hot" day. To a greater extent, the scumbag bashers spot the "offending" long posts and alert the Admins, who then remove the posts and sometimes the whole conversation string.

You may have seen yesterday or the day before when even the dud was surprised an Admin had removed one of his posts. Hey, he was only "doing his job."
