I'm almost 30 and I wish I just pumped all my money into stocks since I was 18. If I chose products I actually used for the last 10 years like Netflix, Monster, Amazon, Google, etc....I would definitely have a few million dollars if I just kept adding over the years.
Sad thing is that most kids at 18 don't care about finance or have a perception that the stock market is gambling. If you had 10,000 in the bank for 5 years you will have maybe 10,400 with interest after 5 years. You're better off investing in a variety of things because you could easily make $10K in a couple years if you played it safe.
