You could have 1 share registered on the TA system of record. Most people hold shares at their broker, DTC holds the shares at the TA for brokers. If you went to your broker and said I want a stock certificate the would send your information through the DTC PTS system by FTP in a file eto have the shares issued as certificate or book DRS at the TA, you would then be a registered holder.
