It would be extraordinarily hard for the FDA to turn down the Brilacidin application, given all the publicity the antibiotic impending disaster is getting. HOW could they possibly turn down a seemingly effective antibiotic, which offers another weapon in the arsenal against resistant bacteria? There would have to be some horrendous side effects, and there's been NO evidence of that in the trials thus far.*
I think people -- even us astute investor-type people -- are not factoring into the equation the importance of this being a NEW class of antibiotic, which means there is nothing that could have developed a resistance to it yet. (Of course, we astute investors know that it is very unlikely that bacteria CAN develop resistance, because of the mechanism of action -- but someone who doesn't know that would still think, wow a new class, that means no resistance yet.)
*And look at how they have approved the dangerous quinolones like Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox, despite their well-known toxicities, horrible side effects like tendons snapping or like my friend who went into a coma and will never recover full function -- and now they're saying it may increase risk of heart problems. How could Brilacidin be worse?
