You missed my point. 'Reeling in' or VP are both fantastical events.

Some history is learned from and some mistakes are avoided.

The Bush Administration was an historical f-up, militarily and economically. Obama is not mistake free, but he hasn't repeated

Now because the GOP is not a 'learning organization', because they have ignored the recommendations in R. Priebus' autopsy of the '12 campaign, they probably will repeat electoral history later this year.
So yeah, sometimes history repeats and sometimes not.
