Not sure...at 1st I thought it might have something to do with the rigid qualifications to become a military parts supplier , especially since they acknowledge a history of military collaborations & they must be doing 'something' secretive behind-the-curtain that provides over 1/2 of their revenues from Cd-QD's.
But I Googled 'PMN clearance' & this is what I found:

If this is-indeed the clearance they achieved , which is only a preliminary step thru the FDA approval process , I suspect that it may be for ex vivo medical bio-assays , since any use of QD's 'inside' the body is still years away , if ever. There are new fluorophores being developed everyday that are based on non-toxic bio-compatible ingredients.
