Unemployment doesn't JUST go down because people are no longer in the job market. It also goes down because people HAVE gone back to work. The biggest component, by far, of the so called 'given up' is now the retired, retiring, baby boom generation.

That the real unemployment rate wasn't discussed during the Bush years doesn't mean there wasn't one. It just means that Republicans are selective in their outrage.
