There is no problem here except you need to understand that the board of director sets the policies (direction) and the staff implements those policies.
Sure the staff through experience, creativity and contacts implements the policies, but Tom was a staff member and to speculate why he left the company is counter productive to accomplishing the direction that has been set and the path forward.
Having said that, if companies put out press releases or explanations every time some one left, that is all they would be doing. So, let the running of the company to our leadership team and focus on the prize.
