Lawyers who put Alpha Natural Resources Inc.(ANRZQ) into bankruptcy protection could get clearance to run a sale process that will get the coal miner back to financial health.
On Tuesday, Judge Kevin R. Huennekens could set a March 28 bid deadline for buyers who are interested in the Bristol, Va., coal company's core mining operations located in Wyoming, West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania, along with a natural gas drilling unit in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Potential buyers will have to challenge an existing offer valued at $500 million put in by a group of the company's lenders. If several offers come in, Alpha Natural Resources(ANRZQ) officials have proposed to hold a March 31 auction, according to documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond, Va.
