I'd rather start with the Republican candidates, as you described them as indistinguishable from Democrats. I don't dispute that both Parties are corrupted by too much money from too many self-interested groups.

I just don't see progressivism, as I understand the meaning, being expressed by anyone on the Republican debate stage.

As for 'common sense', you've of course heard that it's neither common nor sense?

I find it's often used by people who go with their gut, because they don't want to look too closely at the facts or the evidence, or find an absence of both, for what they believe so strongly to be true.
