Same thing that happens with a divi happens in a buyout or merger. Shorty has to pay. Shorties got caught with the $0.011 divi, imagine now the $0.27 of the merger.
25 times the initial problem for shortie!!! Well ... no. The problem is actually bigger. Add the naked shorts or call them unregistered shares. How many are out there? 2, 3, 10 times the float?
Haven't finished yet. Shorting is illegal in the OTC, also naked short selling, also selling unregistered shares. So, add some fines from regulators.
