You're missing the point. The 'vicissitudes' break in favor of Dem Administrations for the 53 year period covered.
And the article did not JUST address stock market returns but also job creation numbers too.
That you don't agree with association, much less causation, doesn't
conflict with my claim that Republicans' claim that hey are better for the metrics discussed and Dems are sh*t, and that Republicans would use the numbers if they were in their favor.
