My step son didn't speak a bit of english when he arrived in the states, total immersion is the best way for foreigners to assimilate and learn the language of the land. My other son was bi-lingual from the day he was born.
The schools do great work with the children of immigrants, its the immigrants themselves that feel we should speak their language and thereby do not completely assimilate while their kids do.
It is not the responsibility of the US to asylum every seeker from piss poor countries, it is not the US taxpayers responsibility to fund all the corrupt governments in hopes they will change.............. The US has never ever successfully backed any government, besides Israel, that hasn't stabbed us in the back while smiling and taking our money.
