People often refer to the "Sharks" and their popular tv show. Usually they'll stick to the fundamentals, looking for proof and valuation. Once in a while though, you'll see one of them, even several of them at the same time, go after a prospect that doesn't have the usual proof to justify the investment. Why? Simple, they have experience. Not just in business, but also life experience, and the two together can help them to more easily spot the prospects that haven't sold huge quantities of product and don't have the huge positive cash flow that you would expect might accompany those impressive sales. No, instead they seem to have an almost instinctual sense that with their financial backing, often at very reasonable terms (if they want it badly at least), this prospect will be wildly successful and everyone will make big bucks on the venture. Not easy to teach that kind of ability since the experience is a big part of it. Experience like many longs on this board have in varying combinations.
